The author examines the advantages and disadvantages, the opportunities and responsibilities that the possession of wealth brings to individuals and the community as a whole. Charles William Eliot (1834-1926) pursued an intensive study of European educational systems and later, during his forty year term as President, 1869-1909, he transformed Harvard University in terms of widening its curriculum at the expense of the classics and developing an advanced research basis. A handsomely bound volume.
