Extremities worn and page edges foxed; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by frontispiece and wrapper by John Piper, by 3 plates, including street plan, and by facsimile text figures. A continuation of the author's fictional exploration of the characters of the London Victorian underworld and its prostitution, which was featured in his bestselling novel, Fanny by Gaslight (1940). By Michael Sadleir (1888-1957), novelist, book collector, bibliographer and, as a publisher, a director and later chairman of Constable. Wrapper design and frontispiece by the artist, John Piper (1903-92).
