Item Description
8vo. 8.75 x 7 inches. [14] + sample pages between [5] and 493 + [11] pp., including index. Bound in original decorative cloth with art nouveau themes. All edges red. A little wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 8 colour plates, including frontispiece, and by engraved text figures. Decorated by initials. An interesting example of a publisher's dummy, a mock up of a book planned for publication. The representative would have taken it around booksellers to show them and record their orders for the complete work on the blank ledger pages at the end. It included sample pages only from each chapter complete with illustrations. The complete work by Adelaide E. Heron was originally published in Chicago in 1891 as Dainty Work for Pleasure and Profit.
