An historical survey of English agricultural practice, the first title published by Robert Trow-Smith (1910-2001), farmer and agricultural historian. He served as editor of the Farmer Stockbreeder and was a founder member of the British Agricultural History Society, being a member of the editorial board. He published some eight titles on agrarian history, including a standard work on domestic breeds, A History of British Livestock Husbandry (2 vols., 1957-59).
