Extremities worn, and fly leaves lightly browned; otherwise a very good clean ex-library copy with class no. on spine and neat label on front pastedown. Illustrated by facsimiles or reprints of original title pages. Decorated by head and tailpiece vignettes, by initials and by title page device. This selection of sixteen extracts, from 1554 to 1807, in the English Garner series includes pieces by Sidney, Dryden, Gay, Steele and Benjamin Franklin, with an account of Milton and life of Addison. These texts were reprinted from the eight volumes of the English Garner, 1877-90, by Professor Edward Arber (1836-1912). John Churton Collins (1848-1908) was a literary critic and biographer, appointed Professor of English at the University of Birmingham in 1904.
