This title is a selection of the works of the author, Jacques Cazotte (1719-92), who eventually became a 'mystical monarchist' and went to the guillotine as a counter revolutionary. Among the titles are a fairy tale, La Patte du Chat (1741) and Mille at une Fadaistes (A Thousand and One Follies) (1742). The reprints include an historical and bibliographical account of the author and his works, by the editor, Octave Uzanne (1851-1931), a famous bibliophile, writer, publisher and journalist, whose research covered eighteenth century authors.
