Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white. Pictorial endpapers. Centenary business history of Consolidated Gold Fields, founded in South Africa by 'that great empire builder Cecil Rhodes and his partner, Charles Rudd.' The British owned mining finance company also operated in the US and Australia and was acquired by Hanson in 1988. By conservative journalist and popular historian Paul Johnson (b.1928).
