Scattered foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Decorated by series device on title page. The best known work of Thomas De Quincey (1785-1959), writer, essayist and acquaintance of William Wordsworth, describing the effect of his long term laudanum addiction on his life and imagination. First published in book form after magazine serialisation, in 1822 this is a post-First World War German edition published by the Internationale Bibliothek in Berlin in 1922 in its English Library series.
