8vo. 8.75 x 6.25 inches. 271 + [1] pp. . Bound in original hand tooled brown leather, gilt with elaborate gilt floral decorations on boards and spine. Top edge gilt, others rough cut. Inner dentelles. Manuscript comment at end:' original design freehand gold tooling and bindery by Violet Smart.' Some small stains on boards and darkening of edges and foxing of flyleaves; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by frontispiece and by text figures, including whole page plates numbered in text. Decorated by title page, chapter heading and endpiece vignettes, and by initials. An early work of fiction with a rural setting, by Scottish author, Gertrude Helena Bone (1875-1962), novelist and short story writer. The illustrations are by her husband, Scottish artist, Muirhead Bone (1876-1953).
