Notes
The official records of criminal trials at Kent assizes, also including everything concerning Kent which is preserved in the 'general' files of the Home Circuit. The Kent indictments have survived in larger numbers from the seventeenth century than those of any other county and they therefore provide a particularly full picture of the administration of criminal justice. Hitherto little has been published to illustrate the the workings of the traditional courts of law during the Interregnum. The importance of this volume is that it shows how the trial of major and lesser crimes continued throughout a period of unprecedented political and constitutional upheaval. Records preserved in the Public Record Office.
