4to. 12.5 x 10 inches. 40 pp. In quarter cream linen over green leather boards, gilt titles in embossed tooling. Patterned endpapers. Some wear to extremities and browning of endpapers. Hinges starting to crack and scattered foxing, including title page; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 10 colour plates, some with tissue guards, mounted on grey paper with captions opposite. Attractively illustrated identification guide to ten classes of British orchids, with text by botanical writer, James Stuart Fraser Mackenzie (b.1843). At the end are detailed descriptions of the classes and a glossary on the meaning of botanical terms.
