Some wear to spine titles and small scrape to lower edge of rear board, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated throughout by BB's scraperboard whole page engravings and vignettes, including frontispiece, by additional portrait vignette of BB on title page, and by photographs. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A well illustrated biography by author, Tom Quinn (b.1956). Denys James Watkins-Pitchford (1905-90), naturalist, illustrator and children's author, was born in Northants, attended the Royal College of Art and taught at Rugby School for seventeen years from 1930. He wrote under the pseudonym 'B. B.' (a reference to the size of lead shot he favoured), but used his real name as illustrator.
