Ash Church, E. Kent 1832..
One small marginal fingermark otherwise in very good condition.
Signed Eva Neumann.,
Pencil drawing, heightened with white watercolour.
a track leads to the church on the left and a dilapidated timber-framed cottage stands on the right, with two rustic figures talking on the road outside the house.
Original drawing on light brown card, 10 x 16 inches, in an acid free cut-out mount.
This charming view looks toward the eastern end of the church of St. Nicholas with a quaint thatched timber-framed cottage nearby. Some rustic figures are in the foreground and a fainter one emerges from the churchyard. The artist was, I would say, not a professional but a talented amateur, and the drawing is well observed, with the figures just a little weak. However the overall effect is very pleasing.
