Separate title page for A chronological Table of the Three First Ages of the Christian Church, 1676 (1-300 AD). Bound in contemporary mottled calf. Front board detatched. All edges marbled, but faded. Internally a very good clean crisp copy. Illustrated by 23 engravings, and by additional engraved title, all numbered in text. Decorated by initials. A scholarly account of twenty three lives of the early martyrs and church fathers, including Irenaeus and Origen, providing an ecclesiastical history to 300 AD. One of the principal works of William Cave (1637-1713), divine and scholar, educated at Oakham School and Cambridge. He held two London livings from 1662, serving as a chaplain to Charles II, being made a canon of Windsor in 1684 and becoming vicar of Isleworth, Middlesex in 1690.
