Fine full tree-calf with gilt decoration to margins and edges, contrasting title label gilt, extra-gilt decoration to spine. All edges yellow, marbled endpapers with engraved bookplate of [Sir] Joseph Neeld, MP for Chippenham (1830-1856) to front pastedown. Repair to leaf Tt6 only slightly affecting text.

Notes
Weever was a graduate of Queen's College, Cambridge and an interesting character. Described in an essay by Ian Wright on the Queen's College website, as "an extraordinarily interesting and eccentric character - connoisseur of graveyards, tobacco-enthusiast, sycophant, satirist, dwarf, penner of dirty ditties, egotist, pugnacious Lancashire man and proud of it... (the book) testifies to the breadth of his literary interests - it is packed with literary allusions and quotations". Weever was also a poet and moved in literary circles. An ardent admirer, he wrote the earliest known poem addressed to Shakespeare, and Wright submits that he and Shakespeare were acquainted and that Weever's work may have had some influence on Shakespeare's.
