4to. 8.25 x 11.5 inches. 96 pp. Separate half titles for each section. Text in double columns. Bound in original blue cloth, with gilt title block over blind stamped decorated panel titles. Bevelled edges. All edges red. A little wear to extremities and traces of foxing confined to title and fly leaves; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated throughout by wood engravings, some whole page or double page, including by Gustave Dor? and on verso of title, preface and half titles. Decorated by title engravings, publisher's device on title page and by initials. Versions of three of the most popular tales from the Arabian Nights by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1835-1915), prolific Victorian novelist, best known for her sensational novel, Lady Audley's Secret (1862). She lived with and later married the publisher, John Maxwell (1824-85). Handsomely bound and illustrated copy of this scarce title.
