A View Of Folkestone Viaduct
Folkestone no date,
[from brierly farm - later bradstone avenue]
Original drawing, 14 x 9.5 inches. Skilful pencil drawing heightened with white water-colour. Sheep graze in the foreground as the Pent Stream winds it's way through the Ford valley with the recently completed railway viaduct behind, across which steams a locomotive. An attractive drawing on grey paper. In very good condition. Mounted, framed and glazed using conservation materials, overall size 21.5 x 17.5 inches. The Drawing came from Dr C.H. Bishop's collection, the well known historian of Folkestone who had amassed an important collection of material illustrating the history of the town. This has his old name and address stamp affixed to the rear. There is also an inscription in George Marrin's hand with the title and date. George sold much of Dr Bishop's collection to him which was later dispersed after his death in the late 1970s. This item was recently repurchased from another Folkestone collector by Patrick Marrin in 2021.
