[viii] + 291 pp. Bound in original dark blue cloth, gilt, in unclipped dust wrapper, designed by John Craxton, with minor edge wear at head and tail of spine, which is slightly sunned. Minor wear and a little sunning at head and tail of spine; otherwise a very good copy. Bookplate. Illustrated by photograph of author as frontispiece and by double page map. Decorated by title page vignettes. The first part of the early thirties walk to Constantinople by Patrick Leigh Fermor (1915-2011) covers the start of his journey from Hook of Holland to Hungary; the second part of his journey, from Hungary to the Iron Gates of the Danube is described in is sequel, Between the Woods and the Water (1986). First published 1977.
