Notes
Performing something of the role of the present day Handbook of British Chronology, this eighteenth century guide to office holders also includes a useful guide to the nobility created in each monarch's reign since the Conquest. Sir Charles Whitworth (c.1721-78) served as MP for several different constituencies (Minehead, Bletchingley, East Looe and Saltash) from 1761. He had a home at Leyborne, Kent and served as Lieutenant-Governor of Tilbury and Gravesend Forts. He dedicated it to the Archbishop of York (Robert Drummond, 1761-76). The book was formerly owned by a fellow MP, Thomas Harley (1730-1804) who served as Sheriff, Lord Mayor and MP for London before representing his native Herefordshire. A scarce title.
