FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8 x 5.5 inches. viii + [ii] + 328 pp. N.B. the H gathering, p. 97-112, has been cancelled, but the text is complete, see Errata note. Rebound in quarter green morocco, over marbled boards with new endpapers; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt with contrasting maroon morocco title label, gilt. Deckled edges. Light foxing of preliminaries and margins, including some plate margins; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by frontispiece folding map hand coloured in outline and by 20 engraved plates. A systematic visitor's guide to the Lake District tourist sites. At the end are tables of the Heights of the mountains and lakes (in yards), an Itinerary from London to Penrith and Distances of places in a tour of the lakes. John Robinson (1774-1840) was a cleric and schoolmaster, educated at Penrith and Cambridge. He served as master of Ravenstonedale Grammar School and held a number of livings in the area as Perpetual Curate. A second edition was published in 1831. A scarce title handsomely rebound.
