SECOND EDITION. Oblong 8vo., 7.25 x 5.75 inches. [10] pp. advertisements + 141 pp. + [3] pp. advertisements. In original printed stiff card boards. Some damp damage and a little staining to boards and top and side margins of text, but otherwise a very good copy Illustrated by plan and numerous black and white photographs in text. Second enlarged edition of a scarce Maidstone descriptive and historical guide with interesting advertisements, first published in 1914. Arthur Sidney Lamprey (1868-1927), local historian and antiquary, educated at Cambridge, went from Maidstone Grammar School to that at Ashford as Headmaster in 1909. In his later career he collected, sorted and indexed Kent Place-Name records (Kent Archaeological Society).
