FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8 x 5.25 inches. viii + 470 pp. In blue sugar paper wrapper. A little age wear of edges, one blank page at front partly torn out, slight staining of edge of title page and occasional traces of foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Published anonymously, but known to be the work of Andrew Becket (1749-1843), who also wrote Shakespeare's Himself Again (1815). A concordance to the plays of Shakespeare, arranged alphabetically by. This is possibly the first concordance to be published as it predates by three years, the Index by the Rev. Samuel Ayscough (1745-1804), librarian at the British Museum, which has been described as the first Shakespeare concordance. A scarce title. (ESTC T138269).
