8vo. 6.5 x 4.25 inches. xxvi+ 369 + [1] pp. Bound in brown leather, boards elaborately blind tooled; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt with contrasting title label, gilt. All edges red. Marbled endpapers. A little wear to extremities, including lower edge and head of spine, slight darkening of top page edges and occasional traces of foxing; otherwise a very good clean copy. 1890 inscription on second free endpaper. An analysis and commentary on the Anglican liturgy specifically concerned with the order of Holy Communion, and arranged under different parts of a church. By Edward Meyrick Goulburn (1818-97), orthodox churchman and former headmaster of Rugby, 1849-57. He became a prebendary of St Paul's in 1858, vicar of St John's, Paddington in 1859 and held the office of Dean of Norwich, 1866-89. The work first appeared in The Ecclesiastic, October 1863 and the Second Edition in book form as a series of lectures and under a different title. In a handsome binding.
