8vo. 9 x 6.5 inches. xiv + [4] pp. + [4] publisher's advertisement and colophon. Bound in original maroon cloth with printed paper spine label. Top edge. Slight rubbing to edges and head and tail of spine and light sunning of spine and label (a spare copy is tipped in at end); otherwise a fine copy with the green cloth boards, gilt of the trade edition mounted as doublures on to front and rear endpapers. Illustrated by black and white drawings and vignettes in text throughout. Stevenson's collection of sixty four poems for children, originally to be titled Penny Whistles, was first published in 1885. Charles Robinson (1870-1937), a prolific book illustrator first illustrated the title in 1895 and it was also the first full book he illustrated. A fine copy of the limited edition of 1896, printed on hand made paper.
