Notes
First English edition of the author's second novel, published in French in 1956, following the success of her Bonjour Tristesse of 1954. Françoise Sagan was the pseudonym of Françoise Quoirez (1935-2004), French novelist, playwright and screenwriter. The characters of her psychological novels had a certain appeal to disaffected teenagers, who perhaps appreciated the existential undertones of her dialogues.
