Notes
An original plate from the series 'Eccentric Excursions or, Literary and Pictorial Sketches of Countenance, Character and Country in different parts of England and South Wales'. One of a series of caricatures made after George Moutard Woodward's extensive tour through England and Wales. In this plate, a group of elderly gentlemen meeting in the parlour of an inn Leicester, argue about the route of a proposed canal. Leicester is said to be one of the places much afflicted by 'Junction Mania' or 'Canal Madness'. Cf. BMSats 8523, 9135.
