Views Of Saint Helena.
Bound in the original card wrappers, as issued, the upper wrapper has a printed title 'Views in St Helena' within a decorative typographic border. Verso of wrappers conserved with Japanese tissue, and re-backed with matching cloth spine.
RARE SERIES OF VIEWS OF BRITAIN'S MOST REMOTE ISLAND.
Printed by John Tyler, Rathbone Place. The Plates printed by W.B. McQueen 72 Norman Street London,
Large oblong folio, title and dedication [to the Duke of Wellington] + 3 pp. list of subscribers [which number 264 in all] + 2pp introduction + 6 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates drawn by Bellasis and finely engraved by Havell, each with one sheet letterpress text.
These fine plates are of the utmost rarity, with less than 300 sets subscribed. It is doubtful if there were more than that number issued. The execution of both the plates and colouring is very fine. This set retains the original printed wrappers. These are perhaps the most splendid of all the views of Saint Helena, one of the most remote islands in the world.
