Reprint of first edition of 1989. Survey, well illustrated by photographs and contemporary paintings, of the development of British livestock breeds, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and horses. It was produced under the aegis of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, by Dr. Stephen John Gordon Hall (b.1951), research geneticist in breed conservation and Juliet Clutton-Brock (1933-2015), pioneering archaeozoologist, specialising in domesticated mammals, Principal Scientific officer at the Natural History Museum, 1969-93.
