8vo. 6.5 x 9.5 inches. xii + 259 pp. Bound in original navy cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper. A fine copy. Illustrated by 8 pages of plates, 8 tables, 2 plans and by 2 maps in text. Map endpapers. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. In 1813 the merchant vessel, Isabella, was wrecked on the Falkland Island and her crew stranded. Two ships went to her rescue, HMS Nancy and the US brig, Nanaina, the situation rendered complicated as the War of 1812 between the two nations was then in progress. An exciting narrative account, full of action and unexpected turns by David Maxwell (b.1938).
