Multi-volume editions of the works of Henry Fielding began to appear in the 1760s, but the earliest one volume edition, by Bohn and others, did not appear until 1840. This version, first published in 1845, uses the same text but adds the twenty two illustrations by George Cruikshank. The editor, Thomas Roscoe (1791-1871), born in Liverpool, was an author and translator, who also edited the works of Smollett and Swift for Bohn.
