4to. 8.75 x 11 inches. 160 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt. in pictorial dust wrapper. A very good copy. Illustrated throughout by reproductions of wood engravings, including frontispiece. Pictorial endpapers. A selection of the wood engravings of Gwen Raverat (1883-1957), one of the most distinguished printmakers of the twentieth century. A list of titles of prints and books is given at the end, including the rural life book illustrations from Farmer's Glory, by A. G. Street, 1933-34. A revised and enlarged version of the 1959 Faber edition, edited by Reynolds Stone (1909-79), a leading wood engraver of the generation after Gwen Raverat. The additional nineteen prints were selected by Simon Brett, the chairman of The Society of Wood Engravers (founded by Raverat in 1920), who has also provided the postscript assessment.
