Vol. I, [ii] + 344 pp; Vol. II, [ii] + 342 + [1] pp.; Vol. III, [ii] + 332 pp. Bound in contemporary half morocco over marbled boards; spines in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt with contrasting maroon and black morocco title labels, gilt. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. A little wear to boards, but otherwise a very good clean set. Binder's label of T. Armstrong 23 Villiers St. Strand. Armourial bookplates of Robt. H. Alexander Brandfold Kent. Scarce political and society novel by John Wilks (c.1793-1846), who appears to have pursued a career of financial fraud and forgery, and was briefly MP for Sudbury,1826-28. This set was owned by Robert Henry Alexander (1838-1901) of Brandfold, Goudhurst, Kent.
