Item Description
8vo. 6.25 x 9.25 inches. xviii + 196 pp. (pp. 189-196 are publisher's advertisements). Bound in original red cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has slight edge wear. A little wear to extremities and a few stains on fore edge; otherwise a very good copy. Gift inscription signed by author on title page. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A work of 'faction' which interprets original sources (cited by the author in his commentaries to the five parts) on the reign of Queen Elizabeth through the recollections of one her ladies in waiting, whose 'recollections' form this book. The author speculates that Elizabeth and Robert Dudley had a 'very physical relationship,' resulting in the birth of Arthur Dudley, seized by the Spanish in 1587. Paul Doherty (b.1946) studied history at the Universities of Liverpool and Oxford and was the Headmaster of a London school. As well as writing on history, he has published numerous historical novels.
