The Saxon House Of Eldred.
8vo. 7.5 x 10 inches. x + 158 pp. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has some wear at head of spine. Slight damage to top of spine and adjoining areas of boards; otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by frontispiece, 32 text figures, coats of arms in text and by genealogical tables at end. Detailed family history of the house of Eldred from Eastern England, claiming Saxon ancestry on account of their Anglo-Saxon name, many of whom later migrated across the Atlantic. More detailed accounts are given of John Eldred of London and Great Saxham (1556-1632), Thomas Eldred The Mariner (c.1537-c.1603), a merchant who circumnavigated the world, William Eldred of Dover Castle (c.1563-after 1646) and two figures of North American significance, Anne Hutchinson (1591-1643) and Princess Pocahontas (c.1595-1617 (although the direct family relevance of the last two is uncertain). By Nelson Beardsley Eldred II (b.1925), formerly of the US army and John Trevor Eldrid (b.1916), of the City of London.
