A humorous novel of naval life by Major William Price Drury (1861-1949) who served in the Royal Marines, 1880-1902 and again during the First World War. A novelist and playwright, his works, mostly on a naval theme, were published, 1893-1939. His most famous play, The Flag Lieutenant was filmed several times and he coined the phrase, 'Tell it to the Marines', in an early work, The Tadpole of an Archangel in 1898. A scarce work, illustrated by Arthur Rackham.
