Ink stains on lower side margins of first few pages of Vol. I and scattered foxing elsewhere; Otherwise a very good set. Signature in smudged blue ink at head of title, Vol. II. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece, by 112 engraved plates of arms, etc. (both Vol. I only) and by wood engraved coronets, etc. in text. The last edition of The Peerage to appear in Debrett's lifetime, although he corrected one further edition. John Debrett (1753-1822), of Huguenot extraction, started his career apprenticed to a London bookseller and publisher. He took over an earlier Peerage and first published his own in 1802.
