Item Description

8vo. 5.75 x 8.75 inches. [ii] + 160 pp. Bound in contemporary green cloth, gilt. Spine and board edges sunned, extremities a little worn and some scattered foxing, largely confined to preliminaries; otherwise a very good copy. Inset: note from editors. Letter from R. Hovenden, Heathcote, Park Hill Road, Croydon, Surrey, 1901, tipped into third free endpaper. Illustrated by coats of arms in text. Decorated by printer's colophon on verso of title. The editors' note explains that the inscriptions were copied before the demolition of the old church of St. Mary was demolished and the churchyard converted into a recreation ground. The letter from the editor, Robert Hovenden (1830-1908) explains that only Part I was published.
