An account of the Dunkirk evacuation 1940, based on fresh information from the British archives, new material uncovered in France and Germany and much fresh detail, based on interviews and correspondence with some five hundred participants (see list of contributors at end). Walter Lord (1917-2002) is best known as a popular historian, who came to fame after the publication of his A Night to Remember (RMS Titanic) and later for studies on Pearl Harbor, The Battle of Midway and the British burning of Washington DC and Siege of Baltimore, 1814.
