The twenty third published title in the author's The Sensual World autobiographical sequence. It relates the author's life after fourteen years of living in Tangier, with short periods of residence in Normandy, Las Palmas, Gibraltar, Cyprus, Tunisia, Dublin, Spanish North Africa (Ceuta and Melilla) and Cologne. Rupert Croft-Cooke (1903-79), born in Edenbridge, Kent, was a prolific writer both of non-fiction and of novels, publishing his detective stories under the name of Leo Bruce.
