First edition of the biography of Irish born Brigadier-General John Nicholson (1822-57), able, if ruthless, East India Company army officer who served in the first Afghan and both Sikh Wars. He fell at the siege of Delhi during the suppression of the Sepoy Rebellion. Lionel James Trotter (1827-1912) was an historian and biographer of British India.
