Bound in the original publishers cloth gilt, neatly rebacked, extremities a little worn. First Edition of the English Translation by John Spanton of Chevreul's De la Loi du Contraste simultan? des Couleurs (1839). As Director of the dye works of the illustrious Gobelin tapestry factory, Chevreul's colour studies had a particularly important influence on the fine arts, notably the neo-impressionists. Includes sections devoted to various fields of application including architecture, fashion and interior design.
