The French economic historian, Paul Mantoux (1877-1956) published the first French edition of this title in 1906. Although intended for a French audience, its fresh approach led to its becoming a standard work in England too. The first translation appeared in 1928 and this second revised edition in 1935. It continued to be revised until as late as 1983.
