The only full length study of Elizabeth Barton (1506-34) of Aldington, Kent, executed in 1534 for opposing, in her prophecies, the royal will of Henry VIII, especially his marriage to Ann Boleyn. Barton numbered Sir Thomas More and Bishop John Fisher of Rochester among her friends and was hence an early victim of the King's religious changes. By Kent religious author, Alan Neame (1924-2000), who was a descendant of the Maid's original employer. His long letter to Kent historian Ann Roper, discussing the Aldington background, is included here.
