Illustrated by 16 steel engraved plates, including frontispiece, engraved title, 4 double page star maps in blue and black, 3 double page planispheres of the earth and moon( and also includes an additional hand coloured meteorological map of the world, p. 498, not called for in the list of illustrations), by 250 wood engraved vignettes in text and by diagrams and sections. Decorated by initials.

Notes

Copiously illustrated work on astronomy, physical geography and geology by Thomas Milner (d.1882). This is the first issue of the 1846 first edition. COPAC includes an 1846 copy which has a revised text to include the discovery of the planet Neptune in that year.
