All edges gilt. Two fore edge paintings by Margaret Costa, derived from designs by William Blake. In black morocco purpose made slipcase with two compartments and folding flap. A fine set. Signatures of Lorna Yvonne Lidstone on second free endpapers. Illustrated by 8 hand coloured maps, including one double page. Decorated by half title and by 2 title page vignettes, Handsomely bound two volume Bible with fine fore edge paintings in an elegant slipcase. Samuel Bagster's Biblia Polyglotta was first published in 1816 as a series of Bibles in various languages. This edition is similar to that recorded by the British Library for 1831, but has two additional Congregational hymn books bound with it, one of which is dated 1836 and edited by Josiah Conder (1789-1855). Congregational editor, hymn and travel writer. These were originally compiled by the famous Congregationalist hymn writer, Isaac Watts (1674-1748). The preface is signed by Thomas Chevalier (1767-1824), a surgeon of Huguenot descent. The maps are by William Hughes (1818-76), geographer and cartographer. (Herbert 1628).
