Illustrated by black and white photographic frontispiece and 50 pages of plates, 32 pages of engraved plates 117 text figures and by tables. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. First published 1965, this is a reprint of a classic well illustrated study of the medieval house from the Conquest to 1540, the first major book on medieval domestic architecture for over a hundred years. Thirty one chapters examine each architectural feature. Margaret E. Wood (b.1908), archaeologist, wrote a number of the Ministry of Works guides to ancient monuments.
