Dr, Rudolf Löwenthal (1904-96) was a German researcher, who fled to China in 1933 and held a teaching and librarian post at Yenching University, Peking, from 1934. In 1947 he left for the US and took up teaching and research posts at the Universities of Cornell and Georgetown. He compiled several bibliographies on the history of Jews in China (see pp. 371-2), which were published, with his essays, in a combined edition as The Sino-Judaic Bibliographies of Rudolf Loewenthal in 1988.
