Reprints essays which appeared in a number of periodicals. Ananda Kentish Muhtu Coomaraswamy (1877-1947) was a Sri Lankan Tamil philosopher of Indian art, especially its history and symbolism. He was educated in England and made it his mission to educate the west about Indian art, later moving to the US. Romain Rolland (1866-1944), who wrote the introductory preface, was a French Nobel prize winning French dramatist, novelist, art historian and mystic.
