FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9 x 6 inches. viii + 303 + [1] pp. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt, with blind stamped block of wheel on front board. Deckled edges. A little wear to edges and widely scattered foxing throughout; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 48 text figures. The symbolism of the wheel in both eastern and western cultures, with the first four chapters examining Buddhism and the Brahmanic system. William Simpson (1823-99) was an artist, who travelled extensively on the Indian subcontinent and in Tibet.
