Bound in contemporary half leather over marbled boards; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt, with contrasting green morocco title label, gilt. All edges marbled, now faded. Marbled endpapers. A little wear to extremities and scattered foxing, largely confined to margins. 1896 signature on second free endpaper. Illustrated by 13 chromolithographic plates two of which are folding, including frontispiece and by numerous text figures, 68 of which are full page. Decorated by head and tailpiece vignettes. A handsomely bound well illustrated edition of the classic work. Isabella Mary Beeton (1836-1865) wrote The Book of Household Management (1861) and Mrs Beeton's Dictionary of Every-Day Cookery (1865), an abridged version, titles which have been revised and updated numerous times ever since.
